Not Death But Life
In Memory of June by David Kelley
She did not die in vain
Nor leave no heritage
Behind for us to cherish.
Her style of loving
Set a standard to attain
A subtle promise yet to be
Fulfilled in us.
-2-
What joy it is to think
Of her and each nice memory
It brings, I know many
Myself, and others more.
She left a lingering sense
That love matters most
In human affairs
And proved it so herself.
-3-
She will in future days
Be with our thoughts
And feelings deep to touch
Our heart's remembering.
We leave a mark when here
That lasts beyond the grave
That gives our friends
And family a reason
To believe our time worth while,
And theirs.
-4-
She gave us all
She had to give,
Prodigious in retrospect
The gift of quiet gentle love
She modeled for us all.
How little we appreciate
Each other here and now
But she was one who did.
-5-
She cannot really die
For life eternal is hers
In glory we can only admire
From afar, and wait to share
With the one we have loved
And love still.
She will live on
In the hearts of those
Alive the more because
Of her.
