A Savannah Rainbow
Cecilia Tomko (2/13/07)
On February 13th, during our nine-hour drive to Savannah for June's memorial, it rained hard nearly the whole way. Sometime around 6 pm, I was driving, and Christopher and the kids were asleep. I began to ask the Lord for a song to comfort my heart about June. As I felt the words I picture you dancing with Jesus come into my thoughts, I sang softly and wept for the beauty of the image God had given me. Soon afterward, the rain suddenly stopped (about an hour away from Savannah) and the most amazing rainbow appeared in the sky. Everyone woke up and began to marvel with me.
First, we saw a slice of it toward the East; then it doubled. Two rainbows out of our driver window, bright as can be. Then, slowly, we began to see the whole thing. I've never been somewhere where the land was so flat that you could easily see the entire arch and it looked like we would drive right into it. Our daughter wanted to get out of the car and run to it, it seemed so close. Even I was convinced for a while that we'd actually reach it, though I know this is impossible!
For thirty minutes we drove on like this, just staring ahead of us at the beautiful rainbow. Finally, the sun started to set, and it vanished, but behind us now was such a beautiful red/orange sunset that it was hard to drive the car and not turn my head to watch it! Once the sky was fully dark, it began to rain again. But we thanked God for the experience and the peace and promise that rainbows mean to all of us and on this occasion, seemed to tell about June.
